Performance Notification Is Not Performance Management

Event-based alerts need context to enable timely management.

Ventana Research's recent study on performance scorecards, dashboards and alerts showed that context is critical in order for timely notification to translate into timely management of performance. Context guides business users in their analysis of the underlying causes of events that trigger alerts and helps them make better-informed decisions through knowledge of the business environment in which events occur. In fact, 100 percent of respondents who said their alerts did not provide guided analysis also said their alerts were always out of date. To organizations that want to reduce latency in notification, analysis and management of threats and opportunities, Ventana Research recommends they evaluate event-based operational intelligence technology.

Is Gartner's Quadrant the Problem, Or Is It How It's Used?
