Guardium just launched with its flagship product SQL Guard — a network appliance that is designed to protect databases. Because it attaches to the network rather than installing on the database server, it doesn't steal any CPU cycles from the operation of the database. Instead, it examines packets traversing the network, putting together clues from the network protocol headers and SQL commands to detect and alert, in real time, when policies are violated. History reports also show patterns, for example to identify employees with a history of problematic database commands. Once activated, the appliance takes a baseline of activity in order to suggest policies and their thresholds. You can then refine policies or change them over time. Access reports via a Web browser. Three models are available, at different price points.
