Teradata has launched an online developer network to connect Teradata engineers, customers, partners and academics.

The Developer Exchange is designed to help members share ideas, code samples and discuss problems related to the building and deploying of the data warehouse vendor's products. The site is meant to be a collaborative environment so users can help each other, make comments, rate articles, blog and hold discussions.

"The Teradata Developer Exchange encourages customers' programmers and data warehouse architects to make direct contact with the Teradata engineers who created a specific product," Todd Papaioannou, VP of emerging technologies for Teradata, said in a statement released last week. "In addition, customer developers are also able to communicate directly with other customers."

Teradata has posted information on a number of topics, such as connecting data warehouses with portal and Web sites, campaign management leveraging Web services, Web 2.0 interfaces, real-time performance and revving up executive dashboards. Other topics include optimizing partner products for Teradata, cutting costs with data compression, Java inside the data warehouse, working with Linux, mission critical data warehouses, loading data in real time and open source extract and load.

Teradata in April announced an alliance with SAP in which the vendors will integrate the SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse and the Teradata database. The partnership reflects a growing trend in which business intelligence software is bundled onto data warehouse appliances.

SAP's BusinessObjects is the number-one BI tool running on top of Teradata. Nearly half of SAP's top 100 customers run Teradata.
