Datawatch Unveils BI Dashboards

The Datawatch Dashboards is meant to be used by employees across an organization to gain insight into operational performance. The software can be used alone or integrated with other software applications.

Datawatch has launched dashboard software for graphically monitoring business processes and events.

The Datawatch Dashboards is meant to be used by employees across an organization to gain insight into operational performance. The software can be used alone or integrated with other software applications.

The BI tool, built on Microsoft ASP.Net 2.0 and Adobe Flash, provides a single screen that consolidates data and facilitates one-click drill-down to detailed information. Layout views, chart-style formatting and filters can be personalized, and security options include individual, chart, dashboard or global-level settings.

The ability to customize the presentation and format without the need of much technical knowledge is what makes the software "unique," according to Datawatch.

Datawatch BI applications in general are different from other vendors' in that they don't depend on building a costly data warehouse, which is often out of reach for small and mid-sized organizations. Instead, the company's tools are able to squeeze insight directly out of data in existing reports and other electronic documents.

Dashboards can be integrated with Datawatch's Monarch Data Pump, Web-based software that serves as an automated event-driven or scheduled extract, transform and load (ETL) tool that can populate Datawatch Dashboards with information from reports, PDF files, HTML, log files, spreadsheets, XML and OLE DB and ODBC compliant applications or databases. Dashboards is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox and other browsers.

Dashboards, launched last week, starts at $9,995 and is available in specially priced packages with other Datawatch products.

Is Gartner's Quadrant the Problem, Or Is It How It's Used?
Bashing Gartner's Magic Quadrants seems to be a popular industry pastime, but in truth, I kind of like the quadrants. My biggest gripe is in how the quadrants are used, not necessarily the quadrants themselves...
