See More by Doug Henschen Beware: Dynamic Analytics and Static Social Networking May Not Mix
As recently reported by Mary Hayes Weier, the enterprise 2.0 social networking geeks at Jive Software (the folks behind the Clearspace wiki platform) have partnered with SAP to make use of BusinessObjects BI on demand offerings. Thus, Jive will enable anyone to embed dynamic analytic widgets into blogs, wikis and discussion forums as shown in this video from the Wolfe's Den vlog... The coolest aspect of this combination, as Jive executive Dan Short explains, is that you can embed live analytic elements that retain connectivity back to the data source. So if I'm, say, tracking a trend that is the subject of a blog post or discussion thread, readers/participants will see the latest information without anyone having to send the latest data or actively update the display. Of course, the danger here is that your static commentary or prediction will prove woefully out of sync with the ultimate direction of the trend. Just imagine blog posts from Frank Quattrone urging investors to double-down on telco stocks in 2000 or perhaps Jim Cramer urging investors to buy, buy, buy Bear Stearns...
I'm sure this combination will be valuable for tracking and collaborating around dynamic variables, but just be extra careful when mixing static commentary with dynamic analysis!
