Readers' Choice AwardsThe readers have voted for their favorite software, hardware, services, and columnistThe results are in. You, the readers of Intelligent Enterprise, have made your favorites known in this year's Readers' Choice Awards. One vendor usually sweeps the awards; this year it was IBM, taking six broad-ranging categories including server software, consulting, integration platforms, and data management. Microsoft, which swept the awards last year, took away only one win this time behind Oracle and Sun/iPlanet, which each won four, and Informatica and MicroStrategy with two each. There were some close ones this year. Informatica's PowerCenter was a close and very popular second to Data Junction; the rest in the data integration and transformation category fought over the crumbs. Oracle Financials won by a thin 1.15 percentage points over SAS's CFO Vision. About the same distance lay between i2 SCM and runner-up Oracle; together they garnered almost half of the supply chain management votes. Windows 2000 was right on top of Solaris, with Linux in a distant third. If you were to combine Windows 2000 votes with those for Windows NT, Windows would easily have won the operating systems category. On the other end of the spectrum were the unambiguous winners. Cognos Visualizer gained nearly 57 percent of the data visualization category, leaving the rest of the votes evenly spread among the other nominees. Siebel's landslide 54 percent victory in campaign management was nearly as extreme. Ralph Kimball is still your favorite columnist three years running.
